The slogan at Dash Cam Discount has always been quality over quantity. The 222x dash camera is the one of the cheaper Nextbase options, yet it’s jam packed with features we look for.
After the hearing the raving Nextbase 222x reviews from our staff, I’m confident the Nextbase brand share our values. Intelligent Parking mode, Full HD Recording, with front and rear cam bundle at an affordable price?

My Experience With The Nextbase 222x
It’s really an excellent little dash cam. The 222x is a big upgrade to the Nextbase 112 without costing much more. Plus, it’s easy to set up and install.
One thing I learned the hard way is that you should avoid mounting it near the rearview mirror if your mirror has a compass installed.
Takeaway: The Nextbase magnet can cause interference with compasses and number plates on the dash cam screen.
The video quality picks up license plates when travelling at high speeds and exceeds my needs, however it’s not the greatest I’ve experienced.
Soon after placing it in the car, it became clear that video performance on sunny days dropped dramatically due to glare.
Other Nextbase models come with the polarization filter, but it isn’t included with the 222x purchase so I picked one up on the Nextbase site for cheap and it was definitely worth it.
If you’re looking for an affordable dash cam with parking mode, this is the one for you. The bigger screen and 1080p resolution creates a great experience when looking back at driving footage.
Insert the SD card into your computer, then BOOM, the video quality starts looking like a movie.
Takeaway: There aren’t many dash cams at this price point competing with the functionality of the 222x. However, it still isn’t my favorite Nextbase camera.

222x Core Features
The 222x shares physical similarities with the 422 GW, 622 GW, and 522 GW. This model is slim and attractive rectangular with wide and tapered lenses. Unlike some of its lower-priced siblings, the 222x ports include rearview camera accessibility.
1080P HD Recording
The video quality of the 222x camera is an amazing full HD 1920 x 1080 that records at 30 FPS with 144 degrees of field of view. The video files are stored on the MicroSD card inserted into the back of the dash cam. Alternatively, you can access the camera footage on the Nextbase Cloud which I found very convenient.
Rear Camera Compatibility
Using the rear facing camera allows the 222x to record both in front and behind your car. I found this useful when getting tailgated, and it made me feel safer knowing I’d be covered in the case of a rear-end accident.
With the rear camera attached, the Front Camera records at a lower resolution of 1440 x 1080 to optimize speed and camera capability. Nextbase cameras use a telephoto lens to video out of the rear window.
Intelligent Parking Mode
With this mode, your 222x will begin recording using motion detection. If someone hits your parked vehicle, this technology makes insurance claims a breeze. If your dash cam is hardwired, Intelligent Parking Mode will even activate when your car ignition isn’t on.
G-Sensor
The G-Sensor is a technology that automatically saves and locks recent video footage after an accident occurs. It prevents loop recording from over-riding the accident evidence to ensure you have the proof you need for insurance claims. What is a G-sensor on a Dash Cam?

Final Thoughts
The Value for Money is really what sets the 222x apart. Realistically, there’s a ton of dash cams on the market that compete with the Features and Camera Resolution / Quality of this dash cam. However, not many that are sold for the price of this dash cam. Compared to the lower rated cameras on our site seen in the iTrue X6D and Lukas LK 7900, this one truly stands out.
All in all, the 222x is an incredible dash cam, we just have high standards when it comes to giving out ratings. A product with 4 out of 5 stars is incredible by Dash Cam Discount Review standards. However, it won’t make it to our best dash cam list.
This device stood out from the competition based on the features it has for the lower price point compared to something like a garmin dash cam. It’s safe to say that Nextbase has their customers in mind.
Nextbases’ values align with Dash Cam Discount and we’ll be doing more Nextbase reviews on their dash cameras in the future. Be sure to out our other dash cam reviews if you haven’t already.
