iTrue X3 Dash Cam - 2023 Review

July 30, 2023 by Amy Mitchell

The iTRUE X3 is a dash cam that claims it comes with a plethora of features. Sadly, none of those features perform as stated in the Amazon listing. Additionally, I discovered after purchasing it that an identical model is available for $75 less, elsewhere on the internet.

Avoid purchasing this dash cam. This is a product I wouldn’t advocate to anybody, unless you love wasting money.

My Experience With The iTrue X6D

My Experience With The X3

This product, like most Amazon dash cameras, is drop shipped from offshore. I didn’t have a good experience with it, at all. I’m convinced the individual selling this product has never even used it since the claims about iTrue X3 dash cam features were drastically overstated.

Are dash cameras sold on Amazon inherently a bad thing? No.  However, if you buy this dash camera, you’re going to spending 4x the price you would if you got this dash cam directly from iTrue’s source, available elsewhere on the internet.

When folks realize this, the natural reaction is to feel exploited. Unfortunately, it’s one of numerous Amazon dash cams that aren’t supported by real companies, and instead are drop shipped from overseas without customer support.

TakeawayThe iTrue X3 dash cam is not worth considering.

It boasts of very good video quality which isn’t clear at all. The WDR video system recording didn’t live up to the hype and there are many dash cameras which give way better night recording footage.

Features

The iTrue X3 dash cam product listing boasts the dash cams ability to loop record over continuously saved data from the SD card, however this function didn’t work as stated.

In fact, we even opened up the dash camera to expose the metal elements underneath, and realized that the mechanisms needed to have continuous loop recording weren’t present at all. After bringing this up to customer support, we received no response.

The suction cup mount constantly fell off the windshield. I suspect it was due to the weight of the camera compared to the capability of the cheap suction cup mount, it was obviously not meant for this dash camera in particular.

How Do You Use the iTrue X3?

Don’t. Avoid buying the iTrue X3 dash cam under all circumstances.

The rear cam uses gravity so the hinge bracket doesn’t keep it in place, and there is no way to tighten it. Therefore, unless you rig it in place, it bounces away. Your footage will be video of oncoming cars one moment, then the ground or the sky moments later.

Final Rating of the iTrue X3 Dash Cam

1.5 out of 5
1.5/5

With its horrible video quality and un-functioning loop recording, the iTrue X3 underperforms similar dashcams on the market. Although the design is sleek, it’s uncapable of producing clear video at night.

In short, this is an awful automotive dash camera device. I didn’t expect much from the iTrue X3, but this dash cam was on another level of bad. Since the minute it came out of the box, iTrue products have been the worst vehicle camera devices I’ve ever used. We recently wrote a detailed review of the iTrue X6D, which actually ranked lower than this one.

Videos are poor quality, definitely not full HD videos. Every day, my memory card would fill up, forcing me to manually erase videos. The video file size of the .mov format was ridiculously large. The GPS location is wrong. The battery only lasted around an hour. There was no such thing as night vision.

In general, if an organization cannot even pay to have a website, it is not legitimate. We recommend looking at a dash camera from our best of list such as the Cobra SC 400D dash cam. Learn from my experience, and don’t buy the iTrue X3 dash cam.
