Wolfbox G840S Dash Cam Review

As a long commuter I need a dash cam I can trust – which is why I tried the Wolfbox G840S. With its crisp 4K video and sleek dual-lens design, this driving companion transformed my commutes into cinematic adventures.

It wasn’t all fun & games though, I have my fair share of complaints after using it for a while. With that being said, it made me feel protected on the road which is all I can truly ask for a dash cam. Is it worth buying over others on the market though? That’s what I’ll go over in this article, let’s jump in.

My Experience With the G840S

Unboxing the Wolfbox G840S

When I first unboxed the Wolfbox G840S, I was immediately impressed by its sleek mirror design and large 12” touchscreen display. Instead of needing to mount the dash cam on your windshield, the Wolfbox G840S replaces your existing rearview mirror.

Inside the box, I found everything needed for installation including the front dash cam unit, rear camera, 32GB memory card, 12v power cable, and adhesive for mounting the rear camera. There’s also an external GPS antenna that provides speed and location tracking.

One of my favorite things right out of the box is the included 32GB memory card. With many cheaper dash cams, you need to supply your own SD card, so I appreciate Wolfbox providing one free with the camera.

Simple Dual Camera Installation

What I Liked About G840S

I installed the Wolfbox G840S in my pickup truck, which was a very straightforward process. The front dash cam unit easily mounted onto my existing rearview mirror mount using the included straps.

I wanted to utilize the dual camera functionality, so I mounted the rear camera above my truck’s tailgate. The adhesive on the rear camera is strong and it adhered well even in my truck’s dirty bed.

The only downside I found during installation is that the rear camera’s power cable is quite short. I barely had enough length to run the cable from the rear camera to the dash cam in the front. I’ll talk more on this later but if you have a larger vehicle, you may need an extension cable.

Excellent Video Quality

The main feature that caught my eye was the G840S 4K mirror dash cam. It lived up to expectations… the clarity is surreal. After I installed it I took the Wolfbox G840S front and rear cameras for a long test drive.

The rear camera records in full 1080p HD, which provides a clear high resolution view behind your vehicle. I’m able to easily read license plates, street signs, and business names when I’m watching back the rear camera footage.

Takeaway: When I was comparing video quality side-by-side, my Wolfbox G840S footage rivaled the G900’s video quality despite it being half the price. Talk about a bargain!

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the 4K video quality from the front camera.

Enhanced Night Vision

One of the best features of the Wolfbox G840S is how well both cameras perform in low light and nighttime conditions. The six layer glass lens really enhances night vision. Small details like license plates are still clearly visible even when driving at night.

The backup camera’s night vision is something to talk about. One night, while leaving a late-night movie, I was pleasantly surprised by how clear everything appeared on the dash cam. License plates, the mischievous raccoon rummaging through the trash, and even distant street signs; everything was discernible.

It felt like I had a second pair of eyes that worked even better in the dark. It’s obvious to me this feature was enhanced vs the previous model.

Emergency Video Locking & Parking Monitoring Security

Ever accidentally deleted a crucial video or ran out of storage at the wrong time? That’s where the G-Sensor steps in. The G-Sensor lock ensures that important footage, like when I narrowly avoided that shopping cart rolling into the street, remains untouched.

Speaking of security, the parking mode is another gem. Parked my car in a busy mall parking once and returned to find a tiny scratch on the side. Thanks to the parking mode, I was able to see the culprit in action and sort things out without any fuss (it was a cute dog).

Areas for Improvement

While I’m thrilled with the Wolfbox G840S overall, there are a few small areas that could be improved.

What I Don't Like About Wolfbox G840S

The biggest thing that can be improved on is that the rear camera doesn’t have an LED license plate light. Because I mounted my rear cam above the license plate, it doesn’t illuminate at night – I think Wolfbox should integrate a small LED in future versions.

I also wish the rear camera’s extension cable was a bit longer. For larger vehicles, you may need to purchase a secondary extension cable.

The lane departure warning system could definitely be improved as well. Currently I think it’s over-sensitive because it beeps (frequently!) even when I’m driving normally. I ended up turning this feature off out of annoyance.

The Verdict

Taking everything into account, I give the Wolfbox G840S dash cam a 4.25 out of 5 star rating. The Wolfbox G840S dash cam has elevated my driving experience with its 4K mirror dash cam. It’s the perfect device for tech lovers like me… plus the dual cameras have spoiled me to the point that I can’t imagine driving without them.

These dual 4K cameras with night vision give incredible value for their price. While the rear camera cable length is a small drawback & upsell if you need to buy a longer one, the overall driving protection given by the Wolfbox G840S is hard to compete with. Since getting it – I feel secure knowing my drives are always recorded.

Takeaway: If you’re considering upgrading your car tech game, I’d say give the Wolfbox G840S dash cam a spin. It’s reliable, advanced, and honestly, quite the showstopper.
