My Thinkware Q1000 Dash Cam Experience
First Impressions
I was excited from the moment I got my hands on the Thinkware Q1000. When I came across the product listing, there was one thing in particular that made me want to try it out – the dual camera setup with 2K recording capability.
I’ve used a ton of dash cams in my time, but the promise of 2K high definition for both front and rear views at a decent price? That was something I was genuinely looking forward to.
2K Dual Dash Camera
I’ll admit it. I assumed that 2K clarity on both the front and rear cameras was a marketing buzzword to sound cool on the product page. I was wrong. The minute I started playing back my initial footage, I realized both the front and rear camera had incredible video quality.
On my daily commutes and weekend road trips, the dual camera system captured my world on the road. From the late night city streets of Dallas to the lowkey roads of West Texas – my Thinkware Q1000 caught it all on camera with crazy clarity. Whenever I playback my dash cam footage, I’m able to get a clear view of a road signs & license plates.
Takeaway: The difference was very noticeable compared to previous dash cams I’ve tried that claimed 2K on both cameras.
Visually Aesthetic Daytime & Nighttime Footage
The daytime recordings from the Q1000 left me really impressed. The daytime exposure in the dash cam footage was never too bright light, the camera adjusted to the sun & shadows instantly. The one thing I noticed was that the license plates of other cars sometimes got overexposed, especially when in the glare of my headlights. While this is an issue I’ve seen in a lot of dash cams, it’s worth noting.
Nighttime driving can be challenging to capture, but the Thinkware Q1000 dash cam rose to the occasion. The Q1000’s Super Night Vision 3.0 technology revolutionized my nighttime recording experience. Gone were the days of grainy night vision videos. Watching back my night drives – roads were lit up, giving me a clear visual of all the details.
Overlap With High Dynamic Range
Using the Digital Overlap High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature was, in many ways, an eye-opener. I noticed that areas which previously appeared either too bright or too dark on other dash cams were now perfectly balanced.
Takeaway: The HDR with noise reduction technology made sure that my recordings were always high-quality, even in tough lighting conditions.
Parking Mode Safety Features
Another feature I grew fond of was the Q1000’s parking mode capabilities. On several occasions, while my car was parked, the immediate recording upon impact detection proved invaluable.
Whether it’s a shopping cart or another driver not paying attention, the Q1000 records the moment it senses an impact, ensuring you have evidence when you need it most.
As a matter of fact, this dash camera got our award as the best heat resistant dash camera for parking mode. If you need a dash cam that’s going to be reliable in the extreme heat of a parked car in the summer for hours on end, there isn’t a competitor that’s more qualified than this one.
Thinkware Connected Service with Integrated GPS
Having GPS information overlay on my recordings added a valuable layer of context. It’s one thing to see where you’re going, but having data like speed and location made the footage even more comprehensive.
The integrated GPS features came in handy more times than I can count. The speed camera warnings became an irreplaceable tool for me during long drives. It helped avoid speeding tickets but also made me more conscious of my driving habits, especially in unfamiliar areas.
Oftentimes, I didn’t even realize I was speeding until I got a notification that a speed camera was on the horizon. The knowledge that the Q1000 was looking out for speed cameras made my drives more relaxed & enjoyable.
Sleek Streamlined Design with User-Friendly Interface
From the moment I unboxed the Thinkware Q1000, its sleek design caught my eye. When I installed it behind the central rearview mirror, it blended in seamlessly, almost like a natural extension of my car’s interior. I appreciated that it didn’t feel obtrusive or distracting.
Navigating the buttons on the Thinkware Q1000 was a breeze. They were intuitively placed, making it easy to access them without having to fumble around or divert my attention while driving. The status indicators were clear and easy to understand, ensuring I always knew when the device was recording, connected to GPS, or when Wi-Fi was enabled.
Impressive Rear Camera
It’s not often that a rear camera stands out in image quality, but the Thinkware Q1000 pleasantly surprised me. Its 2K resolution captured everything with the same level of clarity as the front camera.
This consistency in quality across both cameras was something I genuinely appreciated. However, I do have a minor gripe: the mounting plate felt a bit on the larger side. It’s not a deal-breaker by any means, just something I noticed taking up more windshield space than I would’ve liked, especially when the camera was removed.
The Verdict
Price Point Vs Value
The Thinkware Q1000 is a hassle free dash cam that undoubtedly stands tall. It has the a great design, coupled with innovative features. But do the features justify its price?
Thinkware Q1000’s performance met most of my expectations. The camera lens’ broad dynamic range and its ability to capture great videos are incredible – no complaints from me there. The rear view camera didn’t disappoint either… the Thinkware Connected app was intuitive which allowed me to tweak my dash cam settings and watch footage from my phone.

After spending quality time with this device, assessing it based on our standard dash cam testing methodology, I’m giving the Thinkware Q1000 a solid 4.25 out of 5 stars. The Thinkware Q1000 top features are its speed camera database access, integrated lane departure warnings, & Thinkware cloud storage ecosystem. The Thinkware Q1000 met most of my expectations & I believe it’s an asset for any driver.
Comparison To Other Thinkware Dash Camera Slides
No product review would be complete without weighing the offering against its counterparts. The dual camera package, while delivering on clarity with its 2K recordings, doesn’t really compare to the U1000 in terms of video quality. Offering everything the Q1000 brings to the table, but with an enhanced 4K recording capability and more, the U1000 does pose a tempting alternative.
Buyers should tread with mindfulness. I wholeheartedly recommend the Q1000 for its robust feature set and consistent performance. But it’s crucial to introspect and consider what you genuinely need from a dash cam. If 4K recording is your priority, looking into other Thinkware cameras might be worthwhile.
