My Experience with the Wolfbox G890 3-Channel Dash Camera

Initial Thoughts

Right out of the box, the G890 impressed me with its large 12″ rearview mirror display. Once I powered up for the first time, the HD touchscreen immediately reminded me of the clarity I expect from my 4K TV at home.

Navigating through the settings was straightforward thanks to the intuitive menu system. I appreciated the easy-to-follow guide while using the features following the initial setup.

A True Quality 3-Channel Dash Cam

The star of the show here is without a doubt the G890’s 3-channel recording capabilities. With cameras facing the front, back, and inside the cabin, I complete view of everything happening inside & around my car.

The front camera records in sharp 4K resolution, giving an ultra clear view of the road ahead. The rear & interior cameras record in full 1080p HD which gave the perfect balance between high video quality and efficient storage usage (in my opinion).

The Dash Cam Discount team rated the G890 the overall best 3-channel dash camera after we tested all the most popular models on the market. I loved being able to view all three camera feeds on the mirror display at the same time.

Takeaway: With the cabin camera’s wide viewing angle, I can easily keep an eye on my passengers.

Superior Low Light Performance

Driving at night or through dark tunnels used to make me uneasy, but the G890’s stellar low light capabilities have changed that entirely.

Thanks to the built-in IR lights, the interior camera provides clear, vivid footage even in pitch black conditions. I was amazed by how well the G890 performed on a recent late night drive on some poorly-lit backroads. The footage was clear enough that I could easily make out license plates, street signs and landmarks at nighttime.

Other Features

Hassle-Free Continuous Loop Recording

The worst part about a lot of dash cams is being forced to manually clear storage space by deleting old recordings. The G890’s loop recording feature eliminates this headache by overwriting the oldest footage with new recordings in an endless loop.

Knowing I never have to worry about filling up the storage is reassuring. I don’t have to adjust any settings to make sure I’m still recording while I’m driving. The G890 handles it all automatically in the background.

Intelligent Parking Mode: Collision and Incident Detection

One of my favorite capabilities of the G890 is the smart parking mode feature. When it’s enabled, the dash cam continuously monitors my parked vehicle to make sure it records any threats to my vehicle.

I was impressed by the efficient power management system… it prevents car battery drain while in parking mode. The built-in G-sensor can automatically trigger recording if it detects motion or impact. If an incident occurs, the G890 will automatically save and lock the footage from that time period.

On a recent road trip, a debris spill in the highway caused the car in front of me to suddenly brake. Before I even had time to react, the G890’s G-sensor detected my hard braking and locked the video.

GPS Location Tracking

The GPS receiver gave me speed & location tracking in Wolfbox mobile app. It lets me view my driving routes on Google maps, overlaid with my speed data at the time of the recording.

Beyond reviewing my trips, the real-time GPS tracking also gave me a sense of security I haven’t experienced with many dash cams. I can check my G890’s location whenever I want (if my vehicle is ever stolen or towed).

Final Verdict

4.75 out of 5
4.75/5

After several weeks of hands-on testing, I’m blown away by how robust the feature set is on the Wolfbox G890 3-channel dash cam. Applying our standard dash cam rating methodology, Wolfbox G890 gets a 4.75 out of 5 star rating!

It truly embodies an “everything but the kitchen sink” approach to vehicle recording and surveillance. The video and audio quality is top-notch across all three cameras. Night vision capabilities are class-leading. Continuous loop recording and automatic incident detection work flawlessly.

Overall the G890 is the better Wolfbox 3-Channel dash cam compared to its discreet counterpart, the Wolfbox i07. With that being said, the i07 is more affordable than the G890 and performed similarly overall in our dash cam testing.

The only thing I’d nitpick relates to the hardwiring kit not being included despite being mandatory for a lot of features. Including it as a standard included component instead of a separate add-on accessory is definitely best for the customer. For anyone seeking a comprehensive, high-performance dash cam system, look no further than the Wolfbox G890 3-Channel.

FAQ

Yes, the Wolfbox dash cams have a parking mode that allows recording even when your car is off. This is an optional setting that must be enabled, and typically requires hardwiring the dash cam to your vehicle’s battery to maintain power when the engine isn’t running. When parking mode is on, the dash cam switches to a low power setting that detects motion and impacts, triggering recording if needed to capture incidents when you’re away from the vehicle.

How We Rate a Dash Camera

When rating dash cameras, our team uses a constant testing methodology to ensure fair, unbiased reviews across all products. We thoroughly test key metrics including:

Video Quality (rated 0-5 stars): Does the camera have superior image quality compared to competitors? In this section, we scrutinize video quality across lighting conditions, checking for visual artifacts or distortion. We’ll look into daytime versus nighttime footage, checking that dash cam manufacturers IR super night vision claims are justified.

Coverage (rated 0-5 stars): In this section, we analyze field of view relative to the positioning of front & rear cameras. Does it give comprehensive coverage… or are there blind spots?

Ease of Use (rated 0-5 stars): We judge simplicity of installation and intuitive nature of menus and interfaces. Accessing and managing footage should be straightforward.

Value (rated 0-5 stars): We compare video and feature set to competitors in the same price bracket. Image quality, night vision, and safety features are weighed against price.

Advanced Features (rated 0-5 stars): We assess extra capabilities like parking mode, GPS tracking, collision detection mode, and G-sensor locked video. We also examine battery life and hardwiring requirements.

By testing production units in real-world conditions focused on these areas, we strive to be the most trusted dash camera reviews by shoppers. Please see our detailed criteria page for more on our methodology.
