iTrue X6D Review - Don't Buy This Dual Car Dash Cam

July 30, 2023 by Amy Mitchell

The iTRUE X6D is a dual dash camera, and the company boasts a wide range of features. Unfortunately, none of them work and shortly after receiving it in the mail I realized the same model is available for $100 cheaper elsewhere on the internet.

I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone, not even to my worst enemy. Don’t buy this dual dash cam unless you hate money.

My Experience With The iTrue X6D

My Experience

Similar to most dash cams on Amazon, this product is just someone drop shipping a cheap dash camera from overseas.

I’d be willing to bet that the person selling the X6D has never even used it.

Are Amazon dash cams inherently bad? Of course not.

Are you paying 5 times the amount you would if you bought the dash cam directly from their source? Yes. When people find that out, they tend to feel scammed.  Sadly, it’s one of many dropshipper Amazon dash cameras.

Takeaway: I didn’t find any features useful compared to the others mentioned on the best dash cam list.

How to Install the iTrue X6D

I’m a dash cam expert and I tried to get in contact with support for weeks because I didn’t know to fix the issues I was experiencing.

Support is absurd. Google literally de-indexed the site (removed from search results) because they classified it as an untrustworthy company.

When I finally found the website, there was virtually zero information. When I wrote for help, I got a response in terrible English (my first hint that it was offshore trash). They couldn’t tell me how to fix the rear cam and suggested I keep updating the firmware, which I would do if I was even able to.

Out Of Sync Rear Camera

It’s pretty hard to mess up the sync of front and rear dash cameras, but this company figured out how to do it with the iTrue X6d. At no point during my experience was I able to sync the cameras together, and I’m literally a car camera expert.

The rear cam uses gravity so the hinge bracket doesn’t keep it in place, and there is no way to tighten it. Therefore, unless you rig it in place, it bounces away. Your footage will be video of oncoming cars one moment, then the ground or the sky moments later.

GPS

The device boasts it’s Global Positioning System (GPS) capability, but a GPS antenna is required and is supplied separately for double the price of the iTrue X6D.

Insanely small LCD screen in comparison to the Cobra SC200D. To top it all off, I parked my car in the sun and this thing melted. I came back and there was stick black melted plasted all over my dashboard. How’s the stealth design now?

Hard Wire Kit Not Included

A hardwire kit is needed in able to enable parking mode, which gives the iTrue X6D the ability to record video when you’re car engine is off.

Auto Locking - Time Keeps Crashing

When the rear camera is connected while the dash camera turns on it will automatically stop the camera preventing accidental deletion of the videos on the SD card causing the firmware to crash.

Storage, Memory Card And Battery

Although the device comes with a free 16 GB microSD card, it can actually accept cards up to 64 GB in size. The company advises using a class 10 or higher microSD or TF card. The battery lasted less than an hour.

Night Vision

The video screen is washed out when seen at night, and it’s not suited to be viewed at an angle. It is OK if can gaze at it straight. Please keep in mind that this is only with dim light at night.

Loop Recording

What were my problems with loop recording? It doesn’t exist. Every time the SD card became full, it stopped recording without a reboot. Every time the storage was full, I had to completely format the SD card files.

G-Sensor

I’m convinced there’s no G-Sensor feature installed in the X6D dash cam unit, they just wanted to write it on the product sales page.

Hardware Kit

Company boasted about the hardware kit on the website, and how it comes in the box with the iTrue X6D purchase. Well, I didn’t get it.

Updating Firmware

Kept telling me to update the firmware on the website. But the firmware section of the website doesn’t even exist. It’s a scam.

Another one.

Final Verdict of the ITRUE X6D

1 out of 5
1/5

Terrible car dash camera unit. Low quality videos. Out of sync. Memory card filled up once a day, forcing me to manually delete videos. Video File size was absurd. GPS location incorrect. Battery lasted less than an hour. Night vision didn’t exist.

The iTrue X6D is an Amazon dash cam so I didn’t expect much, but this dash cam was a whole new level of bad. Worst car camera unit I’ve ever used, since the moment it came out of the box. Even the KDLINKS X1 and the iTrue X3 dash cam were rated higher than this low-quality camera.

Generally, if a company can’t even afford a website they aren’t legitimate. At least now I know. Learn from my mistakes. For our opinions on real dash cameras, check out our review of the Nextbase.
