Z-Edge Z1 Car Dash Camera Review
A few weeks ago I was driving on the highway late at night when I witnessed an awesome event… I saw two shooting stars on the horizon. I looked at my windshield, excited that my Z-Edge Z1 car dash cam was angled in the right direction.
Unfortunately when I was reviewing footage, it was grainy and practically unrecognizable. It was one of many things I was disliked during my experience with the Z-Edge Z1. I’m here to share my story to help you make a well-informed decision before spending money on it.

My Experience with Z Edge Dash Cam Z1
At first glance, the Z-Edge Z1 car dash cam seems like a solid choice. It has front and rear cameras with a dual-lens that theoretically should offer enough road coverage. The touch screen interface is another positive aspect, providing a user-friendly way to navigate settings and review footage.
Unfortunately, these positives are quickly overshadowed by a slew of negatives that make the Z-Edge Z1 a less-than-ideal choice for drivers seeking a reliable front camera.
Low Resolution = Terrible Video Quality
The Z-Edge Z1 boasts a high resolution of 1080p for both the front camera and rear camera, which should theoretically result in crisp, clear video quality. However, despite the impressive numbers, the actual video quality is severely lacking. The footage is pixelated, making it difficult to see license plate details on playback.
This poor video quality is especially frustrating in situations where you need clear evidence, such as an accident or other road incidents. Without the ability to clearly identify vehicles or individuals, the Z-Edge Z1’s footage is virtually useless for insurance or legal purposes.
Low Battery Life
Another major drawback of the Z-Edge Z1 is its low battery life. Even fully charged, it wouldn’t last for more than a few hours. The poor-performing battery life had an impact on more than the video quality. The Z1 has one of the worst dash camera sound quality I’ve experienced.
Suction Cup Mount
The suction cup mount included with the Z-Edge Z1 is another source of frustration. The mount frequently loses suction and falls off the windshield, which not only risks damaging the camera, but also leaves you without video coverage while driving. A secure and reliable mounting solution is essential for a dash cam, and the Z-Edge Z1 fails to deliver in this regard.
Night Vision Performance
A good dash cam should provide clear and reliable footage during both day and night driving conditions. The Z-Edge Z1, however, has extremely poor night vision performance. The footage captured at night is dark, blurry, and barely visible, rendering it almost useless for identifying vehicles or other objects on the road.
If you get in an accident at night, I’d be surprised if an insurance company accepted the night vision footage as proof. It’s that bad.
Spotty Wi-Fi Connectivity
The Z1 comes with built-in Wi-Fi, which should allow you to easily connect. Unfortunately, after connecting to my home wifi, my videos were very glitchy, making footage hard to watch.
G-Sensor Sensitivity Issues
The dash camera’s G-sensor, which is designed to detect sudden movements or collisions and automatically save the footage, is also problematic. The sensor is overly sensitive, triggering the camera to save footage for even minor bumps or vibrations.
This can quickly fill up the storage on your camera, forcing you to manually delete unnecessary footage. On the other hand, there have been instances where the G-sensor failed to activate during an actual collision, leaving you without the critical evidence you need.

Customer Questions Not Allowed?
To make matters worse, the customer support for the Z-Edge Z1 is severely lacking. Edge Technology is based in China, and their support team often fails to answer customer inquiries, leaving you feeling abandoned and frustrated.
This lack of support made it difficult for me to resolve my issues with my device. It gave me the impression that Zero Edge Technologies is somewhat of a cash grab. Glenn had a similar customer service experience during her Z-Edge Z3 review, a camera from the same company advertised to be “superior” to the Z1.
Why Zeroedge Z1 Doesn't Meet Our Standards
While the Z-Edge Z1 has couple appealing features, like the front and rear cameras, the negatives outweigh the positives. Between the poor night vision and spotty Wi-Fi, it’s hard to justify spending my hard-earned money on this disappointing dash camera.
I’d recommend you take time to research other dash cams with better performance reliability. In the Cobra SC-400D review, we discuss why the dash cam has incredible safety features like car accident alerts, for example. Nextbase dash cameras are also worth considering, read our Nextbase 322GW review to learn more about what it offers.
The Z-Edge Dash Cam Verdict
My experience with the Z-Edge Z1 serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of thoroughly researching to evaluate the dash cam you buy. We are giving it 1.5 out of 5 star rating based on Dash Cam Discounts’ rating methodology.
Don’t be lured in by the seemingly attractive features of the Z-Edge Z1… opt for a car camera company that delivers on promises & gives a better user experience. Redtiger is a promising up & coming dash cam brand as mentioned in our complete F7N review, check it out to see how a high-quality dash cam performs if you’re questioning why the Z1 was rated poorly.
