Additional content includes a user manual, a quick start guide, a registration card, a customer service card, and a 12V cigarette plug adapter. If you haven’t already, read our full Rove R2-4K dash cam review for our opinion on its pros and cons. But since you’re reading this, you probably already have it – let’s get it installed in your vehicle.
Installing Your Rove R2-4K
The installation process is surprisingly simple. The dash cam should be positioned in a suitable location in your vehicle, like to the right of the rearview mirror, using either the adhesive mounts or the suction cup mount. For power supply, the cable should be run under the headliner, down the pillar, and under the glove box, plugging into the cigarette lighter plug.
When using the sticky mount, ensure to clean the area with the cleaning wipe and apply the electrostatic film first. Then, peel and stick the sticky mount on the film. For the suction mount, the surface needs to be clean before locking it into place. Adjust the dash cam for optimal view and secure it with the tightening knob.
Next, the 12-foot cable needs to be tucked underneath the headliner, run along the trim using the pry tool, and plugged into the power source. This is best practice since it hides your dash cam cables and allows your car to stay organized. Connect the USB to the dash cam. For 24-hour parking mode, you’ll need the Rove Ultimate Hardwire Kit.

Lastly, insert the Rove micro SD card into the slot and remove the protective film from the lens. If you’re more of a visual person, the below video might connect the dots that we’ve already mentioned in this section.
Note: The Rove R3 dash camera has almost an identical installation process for the front and rear cams, differing only with its third (interior) camera.
Post-Installation Setup & Customizing Settings
Power up the dash cam and insert the micro SD card. Upon prompting, format your SD card. Then, adjust the settings to your liking. Your Rove R2-4K dash cam allows various settings modifications for personalized use. You can adjust these through the camera’s menu or the Rove App.
These include resolution, loop recording, time-lapse record, parking mode, audio recording, timestamp, G-sensor, speed unit, and more. The system settings menu lets you activate Wi-Fi, change date and time, adjust screen saver settings, screen brightness, speaker volume, boot-up tone, and LED indicator status to let you know it’s recording.
You can also check storage space, reset to default settings, and access customer care information, legal information, and system information. Upon completion of settings customization, press the record button to start recording.
Leveraging the Rove App
To use the Rove app, simply download it from your device’s app store. Once connected to your dash cam via Wi-Fi, you can view and manage the dash cam’s recordings, modify settings, and share your footage.
