WiFi Dash Cam Pro Review: Caution!

Surely I was going to love this dash cam, right? Wrong. Right after I installed my WiFi Dash Cam Pro, my optimism faded and was replaced by betrayal.

My Experience with the Wifi Dash Cam Pro Camera
Despite its enticing advertising and impressive feature list, my experience was a full of letdowns.
Grainy Video Quality
The first time I noticed the shady marketing was when I was testing out the rear dashcam. I was promised Full HD video on the sales page but instead I was met with grainy, washed-out footage.
The video quality is far removed from the advertised 1080P, feeling more like watching a VHS tape. I scrambled to try to figure out what was wrong by tweaking settings, but my disappointment remained.
The advertised Image Stabilization feature was a fable… a complete lie. The footage came out shaky, far from the smooth recording during a bumpy ride promised by their marketing team.
120° Viewing Angle? More like a peephole view than a “panoramic view”. Most of my surroundings went unrecorded and left me with a limited perspective, it certainly isn’t a dashcam WDR lens as I was led to believe.
Screen Off Mode is supposed to be designed for safety… to turn off when driving to avoid distraction. But rather than turning off, I experienced constant screen-freezing like a computer running Windows ’98.
Wifi Dash Cam Pro or No Wifi at all?
Next comes the built-in WiFi. On paper, the thought of seamlessly connecting your phone to your dashcam is awesome. Reality fell short. My constant struggle with connectivity became a part of my daily routine.
Downloading HD footage to my phone in a matter of seconds is a joke in retrospect. It felt I was trying to send a large file over dial-up.
Dark Night Vision Footage
Armed with the hope of using my new WiFi Dash Cam Pro’s night vision capabilities, I intentionally went for a night time drive the first day I got it. Instead of clear, well-lit footage, I was greeted with murky darkness. The video footage looked like I was driving through fog, with barely any visibility… the night vision video was unwatchable.
Motion Detection
Then… there’s the motion detection, intended to give an extra layer of security in and around your car. In practice, it either went off randomly or not at all.
Takeaway: False alarms quickly became a part of my daily phone notifications, even when there was no movement on the footage the motion detection captured.
Misguided GPS
The integrated GPS system, a key feature for any respectable dashcam, seems to enjoy playing tricks on you. The built-in GPS gave me incorrect directions more times than I can remember. Instead of providing dependable directions, it misguides you, leading you into unfamiliar territories.
The Car Charger
Charging the WiFi Dash Cam Pro was another fiasco. My car charger demanded constant adjustments to properly charge, it seemed to have a mind of its own.
Other WiFi Car Cameras
My time with the WiFi Dash Cam Pro was turbulent to say the least. The promising features claimed by the marketing team didn’t live up. All in all, other dash cams are easier to use. There’s too many other quality cameras out there, I refuse to recommend the WiFi Dash Cam Pro based on my experience with it. Here’s a few I like:
Vantrue’s N4 kit includes a triple-channel dash cam for complete coverage of your car’s front, interior, and rear.
The N4 has incredible Wifi connectivity with low-light exposure video – great for night vision. With 24-hour motion detection & loop recording modes, it provides additional security.
We recently released a complete Vantrue N4 review which goes over the additional details of the dash cam.
The SC 200D by Cobra is designed to offer state-of-the-art protection against all road incidents. It provides comprehensive coverage around your vehicle with its impressive front-view and cabin video.
Equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, GPS navigation, and voice commands, the SC200D offers advanced safety – learn more here.
The Nextbase 322GW dash cam delivers 1440p HD recording with a 6-layer lens, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
It includes Alexa Voice, parking mode, LCD screen, and Wi-Fi / Bluetooth connection. Read 322GW reviews to get Dash Cam Discounts’ opinion on it.
FAQ
What’s the purpose of Wi-Fi on a dash cam?
Wi-Fi on a dash cam facilitates connection between your camera and smartphone so you can view, download, or share footage without needing to touch an SD card. It also provides a platform for real-time viewing and controlling the dash cam settings remotely.
How does the WiFi Dash Cam Pro work?
The WiFi Dash Cam Pro works by recording footage of the road while you’re driving, and then uploads these recordings to your smartphone. It does this by using its integrated camera lens and built-in wifi. It also claims to offer features like GPS tracking and night vision capabilities.
How do I connect my WiFi Dash Cam Pro to the internet?
First, enable the Wi-Fi feature by navigating to the dash cam settings using the touch screen. Then connect your Wi-Fi by entering your network password. Once connected, use the dash cam pro app to access recorded footage.
The Final Verdict
My WiFi Dash Cam Pro experience felt like a dream that turned into a nightmare. With a low-quality rear dashcam, unreliable motion detection, underperforming night vision, and a GPS system that appeared to have a twisted sense of humor… the Wifi Dash Cam Pro underdelivered on its promises. I’m giving the Wifi Dash Cam Pro 1.5 out of 5 stars – and even that’s a stretch.
My overall user experience was far from enjoyable, the image recording quality felt like a tech throwback. The audio quality comparable to someone putting a tin can over the microphone. The WiFi dash cam pro ‘image stabilization’ is supposed to record stable video on rough terrains, but I didn’t notice it at all.
Even though the WiFi Dash Cam Pro has an affordable price tag with an adjustable suction mount & an SD card included, it’s not enough to compensate for the cons. The WiFi Dash Cam Pro lesson I learned is to avoid buying into shady advertising tactics.
If you’re wondering if you should get this dash cam pro or not, proceed with caution. Don’t get distracted by its budget price tag. Read some of our dash cam guides or one of our several reviews so you know what to look for.
Tread carefully, or you’ll end up with a WiFi Dash Cam Pro experience similar to mine. Zach recently had a great experience with another dash cam seen in his Vantrue N2 Pro review, check it out to learn more.
