My Experience With The Cobra SC 201 Dash Cam
When I first visually examined the SC 201 dash cam, its sleek design caught my attention. It’s compact and doesn’t take up much space on my windshield. But the dual-view smart dash cam was a standout feature for me so that’s what I’ll talk about first.
Dual View Smart Dash Camera
What really sets the Cobra SC 201 apart is its dual-view smart dash cam. The cameras gave me complete coverage of the front and vehicle interior, both in Full HD 1080P resolution.
If that doesn’t impress you, the two dash cams automatically sync’d through their bluetooth pairing. Watching the videos back, I realized I had a better view of my surroundings than I do when I’m in the drivers seat. The videos had a crisp, clear image… capturing every detail of my road trips in the city and my ventures off the beaten path.
Takeaway: With the SC201 dash cam recording my surroundings, I could focus on the road and the joy of driving. It truly felt like having an extra set of eyes looking out for me.
Mayday Alerts for Road Safety
The more I used my Cobra SC201, the more I realized it’s more than a dash cam. A travel guide, car insurance savior, and a roadside protector – all in one.
If I got in an accident, the SC 201’s emergency contact feature would be a lifesaver, literally. Its Mayday alert sends an email and text to emergency response, as well as your chosen emergency contact. This has given both me and my loved ones peace of mind, knowing help is a button press away.
Takeaway: If I’m ever in an accident or need roadside assistance, I can simply press a button on the Cobra SC201, and it will alert my emergency contacts with my GPS location.
LCD Screen
Another aspect that turned my driving experience around was the SC 201’s 2″ LCD screen. This screen display provided real-time video feeds, giving me the reassurance that my dash cam sees exactly what I see, and even what I might miss. It’s the kind of small detail that makes a big difference, creating a comforting user experience.
Impressive Night Vision
Now, let’s talk about night driving. There’s something beautiful about driving through silent, unlit roads under a sky full of stars. But it’s also when our visibility decreases significantly, making it potentially hazardous.
Enter the SC 201’s infrared cabin night vision camera system. It was as if I had been given night-vision goggles during playback! Even in the dark conditions, the camera gave a detailed, clear view inside the car.
Affordable Solution
With any modern tech gadget, the SC 201 comes with a price tag. It’s less affordable compared to low quality budget dash cams from overseas.
Although it’s cliché – you get what you pay for. And that’s especially true when it comes to tech products. The features and functionality I got from the SC 201 justifies its price, in my opinion.
What I Didn't Like
It wasn’t all smooth sailing though, sometimes I got overwhelmed. Not in a bad way, well… as a feature-loaded dash camera, the SC 201’s real-time driver alerts can get repetitive. I got on screen notifications about a speed trap (and other traffic and road alerts) on a familiar road a few times too many – but once I figured out how to adjust the settings to my liking, it wasn’t an issue.
Other Cool Features
The Cobra SC 201 really shines with its amazing additional features. For starters, it comes with access to the Drive Smarter App, which takes the dash cam experience to another level.
Through the app, I can access crowdsourced radar detection alerts, which notify me of red light cameras and speed traps, as well as hazards or traffic on my route, so I know when I need to be extra cautious. This has saved me from countless traffic tickets and given me more confidence behind the wheel.
Not to mentioned the GPS heads-up navigation is another fantastic feature that has made my driving experience easier by giving me turn-by-turn directions.
