iTronics ITB 100HD Full Review

I had the opportunity to test out the iPass Black ITB 100HD dashcam from the sellers at iTronics. Despite its sellers claiming this dashcam serves its purpose and can be a reliable tool on the road, I personally wouldn’t share it as a recommendation to friends.

It’s safe to say I had an interesting experience after using it for only two weeks. The GPS location was awful and my request for customer support was met with low enthusiasm. Although some aspects were decent, I found the negatives overshadowed them to the extent that stopped using it entirely.

The video content it captured was barely passable for camera standards from 10 years ago, and it required constant attention to run smoothly. In my case, the item was more trouble than it was worth. Let’s dive into my honest full review of the iPass Black 100 HD.

My Experience with the iTronics ITB 100HD Dash Camera

The iPass Black ITB-100HD sales page boasts that it can record video at a rate of 24 FPS, which is not very impressive based on my experience with other dash cams.

Dual LCD Video Camera & Screen

Despite an advertised video resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, the quality was lackluster at best. Although this dash cam is equipped with a couple vital dash cam functions, such as vehicle and traffic information, and monitoring real-time videos, it failed to live up to the expectations set by the manufacturer.

G-Sensor Event Recording

The G-Sensor for event recording was low quality, providing inconsistent results that made it difficult to rely on the camera for accurate recordings. The ITB 100-HD features a few recording modes, but I couldn’t tell the difference between them. It seemed as though the various modes were more of a marketing ploy than an actual enhancement to the device’s functionality.

Another concern I had with the ITB 100HD was the outdated CMOS sensor. In a world where technology is constantly evolving, it’s baffling that a product released in recent years would still rely on older components. This outdated sensor certainly contributed to the poor performance I experienced during my time with the dash cam.

iTronics Smart Phone App

The iTronics app developers no longer support it, which means it’s not being updated to keep up with advancements in technology. The old version is still available on the iOS App Store & Android Play Store, but it lacks the necessary features and compatibility that modern users expect. With that being said, I found myself struggling to properly use the app and its features.

The system felt clunky and outdated, making it difficult to navigate through the app’s browser and the posting functionality was frustratingly unresponsive. When I reached out to customer service for assistance, I was given only unhelpful answers. This lack of support only added to my negative experience with the iTronics ITB 100HD.

More Reliable Brands

The iPass Black ITB 100HD isn’t as reliable as some competitors on the market. With that in mind, a few of the top contenders are Nextbase, Cobra, and Red Tiger. To help you make a more informed decision, I’ll briefly dive into each of them as alternatives to the ITB 100 HD.

Cobra

Cobra Electronics is a dashcam brand that has products that perform even better than intended. Their dashcams have several connectivity inputs and remote cloud storage for footage, which ensures all recordings are stored safely. The Cobra SC 400D has unique security features like accident alerts, which helps make the roadway safer for everyone.

Redtiger Dashcam

This is an innovative company that is currently dedicated to incorporating AI for road safety. They have several impressive products, such as their newly redesigned dash cam smart phone app. It’s obvious to me that this entire brand is dedicated to staying at the leading edge of tech. I’m genuinely excited to see what the future holds for this company, and I believe their products are worth keeping an eye on.

Nextbase

Last but not least, we find the award-winning brand that stands based on pure performance. Nextbase is a pioneer in vehicle tech, creating products vital for driving awareness and safety on the road. Other ITD 100 HD Features

Voice Guide

The iTronics voice guide was frustrating to say the least. It had a habit of constantly mishearing me, making it challenging to interact with. The built-in microphone picked up on background noise far too often, resulting in the AI voice interrupting me when I was trying to give it commands.

Movement Sensor

There was one good feature that I found useful. The dashcam’s ability to assess movement was pretty impressive but I’m not referring to the G-Sensor. I’m talking about a separate sensor that helped indicate front & rear, up & down, and side movements fairly accurately.

Overall, my experience with the ITB 100 HD has been a letdown. Despite my constant searching, I couldn’t find the lens ITB 100 HD uses to get a replacement after it broke. The lack of clarity surrounding this key camera component only helped to confirm my frustration.

Not to mention the customer services team wasn’t much help. This dash cam is receiving a 1 out of 5 star rating based on our standard Dash Cam Discount rating methodology. My dissatisfaction with this dashcam was hard to shake off, however there were a few helpful features that give the impression the manufacturers at least tried to make it a good dash cam.

While it was better than my review of Z-Edge Z3, I’d advise potential buyers to consider other options before purchasing this dashboard camera. I would steer my friends toward a more reliable manufacturer like Nextbase’ 222x dash camera, Cobra Electronics, or the RedTiger F7N.
